Lafayette police investigating fiery fatal crash

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Police are investigating a fiery fatal car crash on Lafayette’s southeast side.

Lafayette Police Sgt. Scott Galloway said an SUV was traveling north bound around 12:30 p.m. near the 3300 block of U.S. 52, between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Brady Lane, when the vehicle veered off the roadway, hit a tree and caught fire.

Galloway said a witness dragged the driver from the vehicle.

Emergency crews transported the driver to the hospital, where the person was pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, Galloway said.

Northbound U.S. 52 was closed for about an hour but has since reopened.
