Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office treats kids to shopping spree

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — 40 kids have some extra presents for themselves and others this year in Hamilton County after the county’s sheriff’s office held their annual Shop for Kids event at target Saturday morning.

Each child got $130 to spend.

The sheriff’s department said most of the kids spent it on winter apparel like boots and coats.

24-Hour News 8 spoke with the sheriff who said it’s not only helpful for the kids, but for the officers as well.

“It puts a smile on their faces to be able to walk around with these kids to help them pick up some things they might not be able to,” Hamilton County Sheriff Mark Bowen said.

The kids also had a pretty sweet ride to Target.

They had a long procession of squad cars to take them shopping, complete with lights and sirens.
