Seymour man sentenced to 40 years for stabbing pregnant woman during burglary

SEYMOUR, Ind. (WISH) — A Seymour man who pleaded guilty to stabbing a pregnant woman during a home burglary was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Justin Colvin, who was 28 years old at the time of the December 2014 crime, stabbed a woman about six times after breaking into her Seymour home in the 100 block of West Brown Street, 24-Hour News 8 reporting partner the Seymour Tribune reports.

The 16-week-pregnant woman was hospitalized with injuries to her arms, head and eye, but the baby was unhurt. During the sentencing hearing, the woman spoke about emotional and physical trauma she suffered since the attack.

DNA evidence connected Colvin to a steak knife used in the attack, and he was arrested within two weeks.

He had past convictions for criminal trespassing and possession of meth.
