1 killed in accident at Martinsville IPL construction site

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – One person was killed in an accident at the construction site of the IPL Eagle Valley CCGT near Martinsville Monday afternoon.

According to the Morgan County Coroner’s Office, the accident happened around 3:40 p.m. on Blue Buff Road.

A worker was hit in the head by a beam  after a rigging device failed, officials said.

The man was a member of Local Ironworkers 22. His name has not been released.

IPL released released the following statement on the fatal accident:

Safety is always our top priority, and we will continue cooperating with emergency personnel to confirm details regarding the incident.

This marks the second death at the site this year.

A Danville man was killed at the construction site back in March as a result of blunt force trauma.
