Attempted murder charge added against mother accused of injecting feces into son’s IV
INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI) – A judge in Marion County has granted the state’s motion to add an attempted murder charge against the Wolcott mother accused of injecting fecal matter into her son’s IV bag.
On Dec. 2, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion requesting the charge be added against 41-year-old Tiffany Alberts. A judge granted the request on Fri., Dec. 9.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Alberts is also charged with neglect of a dependent and six counts of aggravated battery.
According to court documents, Alberts confessed to committing the crime while her 15-year old son was a cancer patient at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Alberts said she did it to get her son moved to another unit, where she claimed treatment was better.
Some of the alleged tampering incidents were caught on camera.
Doctors say the boy could have died from septic shock caused by the fecal matter in his blood. Medical professionals said he still may die from his leukemia, due to the delay in therapy. They also added if the fecal matter in his blood was not caught before chemotherapy, he would have surely died during treatments.
