New study: Smoking, drinking and drug usage among teens decreasing

(WISH) – American teens are doing less smoking, drinking and drugs, according to a new study.

A study from the National Institute on Drug Abuse says specifically alcohol abuse among teens is at its lowest level, ever.

The study says more than a third of high school seniors say they have been drunk at least once. That’s down from more than 53 percent back in 2001.

The study says only 1.8 percent of high school seniors say they smoke half a pack of cigarettes a day. That’s down from nearly 11 percent back in 1991.

Study authors say they credit social media and video games keeping teenagers busy and at home.CNN contributed to this report.
