Deaf man proposes to girlfriend with Santa’s help

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A deaf couple became engaged with the help of Santa Claus at a Fort Wayne mall Thursday evening.

Sean Sikes proposed to his girlfriend Mikki Bergman at the Jefferson Pointe Mall because she loves shopping and the holiday season and so he wanted to have Santa involved. Sean said he had the ring for the last month and had been planning when to propose ever since.

Sean finally settled on a plan Thursday morning around 10 a.m. to propose to his girlfriend at the mall. He texted family and friends at the last minute to get them to the mall so that they could be there for the proposal. All of Sean and Mikki’s children were involved in the event.

Sean planned to have Mikki’s daughter sit on Santa’s lap. Santa asked Mikki’s daughter what she wants for Christmas, and then she whispered into Santa’s ear to deliver the proposal to her mom. Santa then talked to Mikki directly while her daughter interpreted the proposal. Mikki then turned out and Sean was on one knee ready to propose with the ring.

Mikki said she was surprised and didn’t realize she was being proposed to until her boyfriend got down on one knee. It turned out to be perfect timing for her birthday, which is Saturday.

The couple is hoping to keep their engagement around two years for wedding planning purposes.
