Monday is last day for standard mail before Christmas

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – If you’re finishing up your shopping and you need to ship your present, you’re running out of time. Officials from the US Postal Service say Monday is their busiest day of the year.

Americans will entrust more than 15.2 billion pieces of mail with the U.S. Postal Service from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

Monday, Dec. 19 is anticipated to be the busiest mailing day for holiday packages, cards and letters. Officials are expecting an estimated 658 million pieces of mail on Monday.

In the United States, there are More than 31,000 Post Offices, and on Monday, many of them will be filled with people trying to send out their gifts.

Dec. 20 is the last day you can send a package by first class mail. Dec. 21 is the last day for Priority Mail. And, Dec. 23 is the last day you can ship, for a much higher cost, by priority mail express in order to get your goods to friends and family’s homes.Some tips from USPS to ensure your package arrives on time:

  • Print addresses clearly
  • Remove batteries from toys
  • Don’t reuse shipping boxes
  • Never guess a ZIP Code
