1 dead in Bartholomew County crash

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a Wednesday morning crash.

Elizabethtown resident Michael Parris, 33, has died following a crash Wednesday morning in Bartholomew County.

Around 5 a.m. police responded to a collision between a semi and pickup truck on State Road 7 near County Road 250 East, just southeast of Columbus.

Parris was trapped inside his white Ford Ranger and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 26-year-old Dystiny Leonard of Columbus, was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the semi truck, Timothy Regan, 48, of Rensselaer, was uninjured. Regan said he was traveling eastbound when Parris crossed his lane and collided with him head-on.

Leonard said while traveling westbound Parris took his eyes off the road, crossing the median and unable to get out of the path of the semi.

As of 11 a.m., State Road 7 near County Road 250 E is open.
