State Museum displays several works from African American artists

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana has been home to a number of well-known artists over the years, including many in the African American community. Visitors can see a number of those works on display at the Indiana State Museum.

Curator Kisha Tandy took 24-Hour News 8’s Phil Sanchez on a tour, showing and then discussing a number of the pieces.

One of the pieces she highlighted was by Joel Washington. Washington was born in Indianapolis and then later moved to Bloomington.

She also called the paintings  a piece of Indiana’s history, showcasing the artist’s life.
