Possible tornado touches down in southern Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Storms slammed central Indiana overnight and into Wednesday morning.

Emergency dispatchers in Clark County told 24-Hour News 8 a tornado may have touched down in the Henryville area. Buildings in Memphis were also damaged, according to officials.

Possibly the hardest hit area was in and around Evansville. As of 8 a.m., more than 1,500 people were without power. The bulk of those people were in the Fort Branch area.

In Crossville, Illinois, a man died as a result of the severe storms. Crossville is about an hour northwest of Evansville.

It is believed the man may have been trying to get to his storm shelter. So far, he is the only fatality from the morning storms.
