Police in Boone Co. investigating after 2 women found injured in barn

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating criminal activity in the 1500 block South of U.S. 421 Friday evening.

Police said two women were discovered injured in a barn.

One of the women, identified as 76-year-old Helen Fix, lives at the residence. The other injured woman, 41, is her caretaker.

An evening caretaker who arrived for a shift change was the individual who found the two women in the barn.

Police are not saying the type of injuries to the two women. The caretaker was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable. Fix has been released from the hospital.

Neighbors tell 24-Hour News 8 that the area is typically quiet and they are shocked something like this happened.

“Who could have done this? Who was that ruthless that could leave two women in a barn and just disappear? I mean, we look out for each other around here so it’s like, is there somebody on the loose out here? Do we need to be concerned about this?” said Melanie Rousch, a neighbor.

“A lot of the neighbors came out to see what was going on because this kind of thing just doesn’t happen around here,” said Rousch.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office says they have had previous calls to this address. Those calls were for theft and intimidation. The intimidation call was the most recent. They are not saying who was involved in those calls or if they might be connected to Friday’s incident.

Police are following up on several leads at this time.

Currently the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the Zionsville Police Department and the Zionsville Fire Department are working jointly on this case.
