The Film Yap reviews “Life,” “Power Rangers,” and more
Six new films hit Indy theaters this weekend, and The Film Yap’s Christopher Lloyd shares his take on each:
T2 Trainspotting – Danny Boyle gathers Ewan McGregor and the old gang back together from their 1996 groundbreaking film, as young heroin addicts become dissolute middle-aged men. Enjoyable, probably unnecessary.
Life – Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this horror/sci-fi flick about a group of astronauts who recover a living specimen from Mars, only to find it wants to eat all their faces. “The Thing” in space?
Wilson – Woody Harrelson stars in this indie about a lonely, dyspeptic man with an affinity for inserting himself awkwardly into other people’s conversations who finds out he has a teen daughter.
Song to Song – The latest head-scratcher from odd auteur Terence Malik follows a group of characters wandering through love and betrayal in the Austin music scene. With Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman.
Power Rangers – “A group of high-school kids, who are infused with unique superpowers, harness their abilities in order to save the world.” Or so says IMDb. Expect bright colors and lots of violence-free fighting.
CHIPS — Michael Peña and Dax Shepard play Poncherelli and Baker in a comedy remake of the kitschy ’70s TV show that some people, who are soon to be unemployed, thought was a good idea.
Lion – Dev Patel stars in this Oscar-nominated story about a young Indian boy who is separated from his family, raised in Australia and resolves to find his mother and siblings. Stream It.
