Local teen caddies his way to college scholarship

His father did it, and now Jeffery Schwind is doing it, too! Meet the Indianapolis Evans Scholar whose father’s footsteps are taking him even further than the green.About the Indianapolis Evans Scholarship:

• Established by famed amateur golfer Charles Chick Evans Jr., the Evans Scholarship provides full housing and tuition scholarships to high-achieving caddies across the country.

• The criteria to become an Evans Scholar includes: a strong caddie record; excellent academics; demonstrate financial need; and outstanding character.

• Jeffery is one of 14 high school caddies from Indiana to receive the Evans Scholarship.

• These 14 caddies will begin college in fall 2017.

• The scholarship is valued at more than $100,000 over four years. Currently, a record 935 caddies are enrolled in 20 universities across the nation as Evans Scholars, and more than 10,400 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars.

About Evans Scholars Foundation: Established by famed amateur golfer Charles Chick Evans Jr., the Evans Scholars Foundation provides full housing and tuition scholarships to deserving caddies across the country. The Program, which is supported by the Western Golf Association, is funded by contributions from more than 30,000 WGA Par Club members, including Evans Scholars Alumni, as well as proceeds from the BMW Championship.
