Luck offers no timetable for return from shoulder surgery

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -“I want to play! I want to play, but I’m not going to worry about it,” said Andrew Luck.

After a three month off-season, the Colts Complex has a new feel to it. There is are new faces, new goals, and a star quarterback coming off shoulder surgery.

“At first it’s a little weird. Especially when you’re in a sling. That’s awkward! Being in a sling and being held up for a while. But once you get in a routine, it’s like anything else. And it’s been a great routine so far,” said Luck.

It’s a routine that includes a lot of rehab. The status of when Luck will return to team workouts remains unknown, but that wait will be well worth it for number 12.

“There were a couple of times during the year where I would get hit in an awkward position, an awkward way. And it wouldn’t feel great. And it would be a taxing effort to get ready for that next week,” said Luck.

As he continues with the rehab process, Luck revealed that he actually sustained that shoulder injury at Tennessee, week three of the 2015 season. The decision to have surgery this off-season was completely his call.

“I never felt like anyone else was trying to make the decision for me,” said Luck. “I fully trust that when the doctors say that I’m 100 percent, that I’ll be 100 percent.”

And number 12’s o-line 100 percent can’t wait to have Luck back under center.

“We love Andrew obviously, and we can’t wait to have him back. We’re going to miss him and he’s our guy. But it’s going to be a different voice out there in the huddle with the cadences,” said Jack Mewhort. “But it’s on us to make sure we’ve got our stuff handled upfront so we can give, whether it be Andrew, or Scott, or Stephen, anybody back there an opportunity to make their plays. Because we know they’re all capable.”

For now, Luck doesn’t plan on rushing to process to get back to the field, just hoping to reap the benefits of a surgically repaired right shoulder as soon as possible.
