1 dead, 3 hurt in Hancock Co. crash

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person was killed and three others were injured in a Hancock County crash Tuesday morning.

The deadly one-vehicle accident happened near the intersection of State Road 9 and County Road 1000 North at approximately 1 a.m.

Police said the passenger car was headed southbound on State Road 9 when it left the roadway and struck an utility pole.  Four people were in the vehicle.

A female passenger, 17-year-old Sarah Overby, was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver, 20-year-old Jonathan Castillo, and two other male passengers, 18-year-old Isreal Tutrow and 21-year-old Desmond Hill, were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital and St.Vincent Anderson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the vehicle lost control as it was exiting a curve, causing it to to leave the roadway and then ultimately hit a utility pole.
