City county council president talks living wage proposal

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Just hours from now, Indianapolis City County Council President Maggie Lewis announced a plan to guarantee a living wage for all city-county employees.

The plan calls for a minumum wage of $13 an hour for all full-time city workers, which amounts to just over $27,000 a year, based on a 40-hour work week.

The plan would mean a raise for an estimated 365 workers.

The living wage plan will be officially introduced to the city-county council Monday night.

Lewis said the plan would cost the city about $450,000 in next year’s budget.

However, before she made the announcement official Monday morning, she stopped by WISH-TV.
