1 woman dead, 5 injured following Shelby Co. crash

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A crash left one person dead and sent five people to the hospital in Shelby County Wednesday morning.

It happened on State Road 44 west of Shelbyville around 10 a.m. between Marietta Road and The Big Blue River.

Preliminary investigations showed a white pickup truck was travelling eastbound over the center lane and sideswiped three vehicles before it collided head on with a van. Five vehicles in total were involved in the crash.

One woman was pronounced dead on scene as a result of the crash.

Five people were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in unknown conditions.

State Road 44 will be closed for hours while crews clean the debris.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
