INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Three people are recovering after a triple shooting on the city’s northeast side.
It happened around 4 p.m. Sunday at the Shadeland Court Apartments.
Indianapolis Metropolitan police are still looking for suspects. As of Saturday night, they say they’re not sure if the three victims were targeted or shot at random.
People who live in the area described a chaotic scene as they heard multiple gunshots.
“When it started happening, it sounded like hundreds, but I know that was just purely out of panic. Realistically, it is probably 15 or so rounds that went off,” said resident Ryan Cox.
He said he saw one of the victims on the ground.
“Not knowing which direction it was going or anything like that, just started running, panicking,” said Cox.
Police spent hours working a large crime scene that spanned a courtyard area at the apartment complex, as well as the inside of several apartments.
“There were three different locations where the individuals were shot, and so they’re trying to figure out what the locations were based on the evidence at each location,” said Officer Aaron Hamer with IMPD.
Police say there have been prior calls to this area in the past, and people living there say gunfire is nothing new.
“It is not uncommon for people to just be stupid and fire rounds up into the air, you know one or two here or there like that. Today was a little different apparently,” said Cox.
The shooting happened during the afternoon, and police say they are working with multiple witnesses.
At last check all three victims were listed in stable condition.
