INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Authorities are responding to reports of a body that was found in the White River.
It happened in the area of North White River Parkway and Saulcy Street when officers were called to the scene around 1:45 p.m.
The body was first reported from a fisherman and a family walking in the area.
Divers located the body around 3:15 p.m.
The incident is being treated as a death investigation.
Officials will release more information on Thursday.
But 11-year-old Alina Mendez recalled her terrifying family walk.
“My dad had his things to see and he saw like part of the head but it started moving and is we were walking down and we saw it was like a body,” she said. “…It was kind of scary because i have never seen a dead body in my life. And she wanted to save him but i was like no because the water is deep and you want to sacrifice your life.”
Mendez said she will be praying for whomever was found in the river.
“I just told the lord hopefully he’s in heaven,” she said.
Those prayers may be for the family of George Key, who went missing a few days ago. His sister, who wanted to remain unidentified, said she saw rumors on Facebook the body could have been Key’s.
“I flipped,” she said. “I dropped down to the floor and balled my eyes out.”
She said Key’s mother kicked him out of her Indianapolis house last week because the father of three had a drug problem. He’s been camping out along the White River.
But again, IMPD did not say how old the person was, the person’s gender, or even if this case is a homicide investigation so it leaves Key’s family with some hope that key could still come home.
