Man fatally shot on northwest side possibly set on fire, police say

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds Sunday morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the northwest side of Indianapolis, authorities said.

Police were dispatched to The Villas at Meridian Hills in the 21000 block of Shelburne Drive around 3:50 a.m. after a complaint was made about loud noises that sounded like fireworks, according to IMPD spokesperson Officer Genae Cook.

The disruption was likely gunfire, she confirmed.

Authorities said 35-year-old Erodney Davis suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck and shoulders and was possibly lit on fire.

Police are investigating a possible connection between the shooting and a car fire at a nearby apartment complex on Westlane Road, Cook said.

Officials will not be able to confirm whether the shooting victim had been burned in the car fire until after the autopsy is complete, she added. The autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Neighbors in the area told 24-Hour News 8 they heard gunshots, but didn’t know someone had been injured or killed.

“It is definitely a personal matter, based on investigation and everything, this is definitely someone who knew this person,” said Officer Cook.

No suspect information was immediately available. Cook urged anyone who “saw or heard anything in the area” to contact authorities at 317-262-8477.
