15-year-old boy dies of injuries following east side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are searching for a suspect in an early morning shooting that has left a teenage boy dead.

Saturday afternoon 15-year-old Kevin Rainey was pronounced dead after life-saving efforts at Eskenazi Hospital, IMPD reported around 4:30 p.m.

Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 8100 block of East 37th Street — that’s near North Franklin Road — on a report of a person shot on Saturday just after midnight. Police said they arrived to find Rainey lying in the street suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Officials at the scene said Rainey had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Suspect information has yet to be released.

It is not yet known if the victim was targeted or if this was a random shooting.
