Taste of the Southside Toasts 25th Anniversary

Grab your glasses and raise a toast! The Southside is celebrating its 25th Anniversary… and YOU’RE invited! It’s all part of a one-day event where you can sample bites and sips from Central Indiana restaurants, bakeries, breweries and wineries.

Date: Sunday, Nov. 5 at Primo Banquet Hall (2615 National Avenue) from 4:30 – 7 p.m. (General admission) or 4 p.m. early access

Tickets are $40 general admission or $45 for early access

There are calorie free activities such as the live Chef’s Challenge featuring a basket of mystery items and Mixology Competition.

WHY: Local restaurants, bakeries, breweries and wineries will serve bites and sips during the 25th annual Taste of the Southside, presented by Meijer, on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 4:30 – 7 p.m. at Primo Banquet and Conference Center. The one-day event organized by the Greater Greenwood Chamber serves as the southside’s largest and longest running tasting event.

In addition to sampling fare, there will also be a Mixology Competition, Chef Challenge, mystery gift pull, silent auction and live entertainment. Early access tickets are $45 and allow guests to enter 30 minutes early. General admission tickets are $40.

Pumpkin Black Bean Soup

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 cans black beans undrained

1 can pumpkin

2 cups chopped tomato

2 gloves chopped garlic

1 cup water

3 cups vegetable stock

½ cup mild green chilies (can used cans)

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon ginger

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup heavy cream (optional)

3 tablespoons fresh cilantro

Salt and pepper to taste

Sauté onions and garlic until tender.  Add beans, tomatoes, chilies, broth, and dry spices.  Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes.  Add cilantro and serve.
