Jury finds 34-year-old guilty of murder, 3 other charges

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A jury Thursday found a 34-year-old Indianapolis man guilty of murder and three other criminal charges, online court records show.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in June 2016 arrested Jeremiah Walker in connection with the death of 45-year-old Erbie Thompson. On May 31, 2016, Thompson was found with trauma to his head and a gunshot wound near his hip. Thompson was rushed to a hospital, but died there later that night.

“Walker shot and killed Thompson while attempting to rob the victim and his girlfriend at gunpoint in the couple’s home in the 6100 block of E. 11th Street,” said a news release issued Friday by county prosecutors. “During the attempted robbery, one of the suspects used zip ties to confine the female victim.

“After Thompson was shot, the suspects fled in a vehicle. The female victim was able to see the license plate of the vehicle and memorized it to report to the responding officers. That license plate was registered to a vehicle by the same description registered to Jessica Figueiredo. Detectives were able to locate the vehicle with Walker and Figueiredo the day after the murder.

“A receipt for the purchase of zip ties was located in the suspects’ vehicle. When detectives reviewed the corresponding store’s security video from May 31, 2016, the video showed two individuals matching two of the suspects’ descriptions making a purchase of a package of zip ties.”

In addition to the murder conviction, Walker also was found guilty of robbery, carrying a handgun without a license and criminal confinement with a deadly weapon. His sentencing was set for Nov. 17 in Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division 6.

Prosecutors said Figueiredo, 34, pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery, agreed to cooperate in the prosecution of Walker and testified in his trial this week. Her sentencing is set for Nov. 20.
