Severe storms possible Sunday followed by cooler work week

Keep the rain gear handy if you’re heading out tonight. We’ll see scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder with temperatures holding steady this evening in the low 60s.

We’ll start our Sunday with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, which may help to limit our afternoon/evening severe threat a bit, but still expect several strong to severe storms late Sunday.

An enhanced risk is in place for most of the area, a 3 out of 5 on our severe weather scale, meaning severe storms are likely. Threats include: damaging winds and large hail, but a few tornadoes are also possible, so stay weather aware tomorrow.

The rain will continue through the early morning hours Monday, but with the exception of a stray showers here or there, the work week ahead looks mostly dry.

Unfortunately, if you are a fan of the mild temps, they are going to be exiting with the showers and storms late Sunday. Several shots of colder air look to push our way through the work week, dropping lows into the upper 20s at times towards the tail end of the week.

Our next best chance for storms looks to slide in through the second half of next weekend, so if you already have tickets to the Colt’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, you’ll want to keep a rain coat handy for pregame festivities unless things change before now and then.
