Jeff Sessions visit irks some Indy religious, political leaders

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Not everyone agreed with having U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in Indianapolis on Monday.

Some religious leaders and elected officials voiced their opposition on Monday afternoon.

Those who opposed Sessions’ visit said it was purely political in nature and that they don’t believe Sessions wants to help the black community.

They also called the idea that the Ten Point Coalition would host Session “offensive.”

“I think Reverend Harrison is abundantly clear on how we feel about Jeff Sessions, and him coming to the city of Indianapolis. I think our sentiment has been peppered and echoed across the city in media and social media. If he is not aware, it’s because he is not listening,” said City-County councillor Stephen J. Clay.

Clay also took aim at Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill for inviting Sessions saying, “I think this play today is a bad play.”
