Teen charged with possession of firearm on school property
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Charges have been filed against a Lafayette teen after he allegedly brought a handgun to school.
About 1 p.m. Oct. 24, police were called to investigate a complaint that a student, 16-year-old Justin Mullins, had brought a gun to The Crossing high school in Lafayette.
Court documents say that Mullins’ mother, Erin Layne, told officers that she had received a report the day before that her son had brought a gun to school and that she had seen the gun on that day.studen
Police met with Mullins after Layne allowed them to recover a gun from his backpack at the school. Police say Mullins explained that he had brought the weapon on the previous day.
A witness at the school also reported being shown the revolver by Mullins and another described seeing him with it in an adjacent alley.
Mullins has been charged with carrying a handgun without a license and possession of a firearm on school property.
