Car into retention pond, driver and passenger able to escape vehicle
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Two people were able to escape after their vehicle ended up in a retention pond early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened in the 2400 block of North Post Road just before 3 a.m behind a Denny’s restaurant.
Authorities say a 63-year-old female was driving in a parking lot when she attempted to make a u-turn and ended up in a retention pond. Crews say that between the rain and the dark, the driver assumed the pond was wet asphalt when she drove into the water.
The passenger, a male family friend in his 30s, was able to climb out of the vehicle. He was then able to get the 63-year-old female driver out of the car, helping her get to safety.
Neither were injured in the incident.
