INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A girl that was kidnapped by her biological mother has been found safe.

The Kokomo Police Department said eight-year-old Ja’layia Williams was found safe in Indianapolis, along with her mother, Sherica Wizzard.

Police had said Wizzard took the girl around 8 p.m. Monday while Wizzard and Williams were at the IHOP located at 50 West and 300 South in Kokomo.

The girl’s father, 30-year-old Kolyaun Williams, told police that he had full custody of the girl but had recently allowed Wizzard to spend time with her.

He told officers that Wizzard had taken the girl and another daughter to the restaurant without his permission, then took off.

Wizzard has since been arrested on a warrant for violation of a custody order, a and child neglect, according to the Kokomo Police Department.

On Monday night, Kokomo police said the incident did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
