Muncie charity still plans for Thanksgiving meal after break-in destroys supplies

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A Muncie charity said someone broke into their storage units and stole and damaged their supplies just weeks before an annual Thanksgiving feast for the hungry. Now they’re asking the public to help get them back on track.

Jeannine Lee Lake is the director of Feed My Sheep, the religious charity that rented the units. She said whoever broke in didn’t take much, but they damaged the items inside by ransacking the unit and leaving the items exposed to heavy rainfall in Muncie early this week.

“The Bible says be angry and sin not,” Lake said. “So that’s what we’re trying to do.”

The charity feeds more than 1,000 people every Thanksgiving. Lake said someone damaged the decorations, stole electric knives and left clothes and supplies exposed to the rainwater.

“I would just tell [the thief or thieves] that God loves them. I want to pray for them. We’re on the path of forgiveness,” Lake said.

The good news: Locals have volunteered to clean the clothes and someone donated a stack of board games, replacing the old ones that were damaged.

Feed My Sheep still needs hundreds of dollars’ worth of plates, forks, knives, aluminum foil, and boxes for the meals they deliver.

“We’re going to recover,” Lake said. “We’ve talked about it, and we’ve said that we’re going to come together and make this happen this year.”

Lake said the thief broke into two of her units. Muncie police said someone also broke into other units at the Muncie storage facility.
