For three days every December, CIDE brings the holidays to life through chaikovsky’s magical and iconic ballet. In the opening scene, guests are transported to the Stahlbaum family Christmas celebration where they experience the magic of the holidays through the eyes of 10 year old Clara as she and her Nutcracker Prince embark on a dreamlike journey to the Land of Sweets. Audience members ages one to 100 delight as the Snow Queen, Rose Fairy, Sugar Plum Fairy and more, come to life to perform for young Clara. CIDE’s Nutcracker features 121 dancers from 47 central Indiana schools. This year, the iconic role of Sugar Plum Fairy will be shared by two Carmel High School seniors, Audrey Burdick and Paige Hall. Both dancers have been studying ballet since the age of five years old and currently train over 25 hours a week in addition to carrying a rigorous course load. Both Audrey and Paige plan to continue their dance training next year as ballet performance majors at the collegiate level. Their passion and dedication is common among dancers at CIDE.

They will host a free performance of The Nutcracker on Friday, December 15 at 10 a.m. for community centers, schools and other groups who would otherwise be unable to attend the show. In addition to The Nutcracker performance, holiday enchantment abounds at the Sugar Plum Fairy Dessert Party prior to each matinee. Scout groups, preschool and elementary age children enjoy treats from the Land of Sweets, have their picture taken with Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy, complete a craft and participate in an interactive Nutcracker story time. Tickets for the Dessert Party are $12 and are available in tandem with a show ticket. The Nutcracker performance schedule includes a Friday and Saturday 7:30 p.m. show and a Saturday and Sunday 2:00 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $25/adults and $18 for students 18 and younger.
