Repeat meat thief chased off by Trader Joe’s employees after second attempt at shoplifting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Trader Joe’s employees on the northeast side say a man stole hundreds of dollars in meat products then was was run off by employees when he tried to do the same thing the next day.

According to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report, a man stole hundreds in meat products from the Trader Joe’s near 82nd Street and Allisonville Road on Wednesday then went back on Thursday to do the same thing.

Employees told police they saw him come into the store and put over $900 in meat products into a cart, including hams, turkeys and lobster tails, then took the cart out of the store.

The manager and a co-manager confronted the thief in the parking lot, who then abandoned the shopping cart. The workers said the suspect had a large knife on him during the altercation.

Police describe the thief as a white male in his mid-30s, with dirty blond hair in a ponytail, wearing a light blue work shirt or jacket. He drove an older matte grey pickup, possibly a Ford F-150, during his first theft.

No surveillance photos have been made available.
