Strong wind and storms, Saturday

A very active weather day across central Indiana will bring rain, storms, potential for severe weather, and strong winds to much of the area.

Morning radar shows isolated to scattered rain across much of central Indiana.  A longer line of showers and storms is racing through the central Plains this morning.

There is a slight risk for severe storms for areas along and south of I-70.  North counties are under a marginal risk for severe storms.  Damaging straight line winds will be the primary concern this afternoon as storms move through.  Best window for storms will be this afternoon.  Threat for severe weather will be over by early evening, but rain will remain for much of the mid to late evening hours.  Temperatures could get cold enough for a few snowflakes to mix in by late this evening north of Indy.

In addition to the severe threat, we also have a concern for strong, potentially damaging winds that will not be associated with thunderstorms.  Strong area of low pressure will sweep through the area today – bringing not only rain, but wind gusts potentially up to 40-50mph.  A wind advisory is in effect for much of central Indiana for today because of this possibility.

Meanwhile, temperatures are extremely mild across much of the area as a warm front surges north.  Expect some areas to hit the middle 60s before colder air works in behind the cold front this afternoon.
