Indy Animal Care services still at full capacity, adoptions critical to keep animals alive

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Animal Care Services said on Monday that they are still at full capacity. They first announced they were full last week and have taken in more animals since then. Over the weekend, they took in more than 100 animals.

The facility is currently maxed out and can hold between 600-700 animals at a time. Indiana law states surrendered animals cannot be turned away so space must be made.

IACS went into the season with more animals than normal because they have tried not to euthanize but have already had to put some animals down.

The shelter is in the middle of their “Pay it forward” campaign that will go on throughout the rest of the year. For those who bring in $15 worth of items off the IACS wishlist, the adoption fee will be waived.

Some of the items on the wish list include: food, bleach, paper towels and more.

For $15, the dog or cat will be micro-chipped, spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
