Fort Wayne gas station shooting suspect identified, charged with murder

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Police have identified the gas shooting suspect as 21-year-old Victor Manual Rivera.

Rivera is facing Murder, Felony Murder and Robbery Causing Serious Bodily Injury charges from the Thursday night incident.

Police say they were able to identify and arrest the suspect in large part due to the public’s willingness to provide credible information to investigators when his likeness was portrayed on all local media outlets.

Rivera was taken into custody without incident this morning when investigators observed him walking in a north side trailer park off of Washington Center Road.

One person was killed in the incident that happened at the Meijer gas station on Lima Road around 8:15 p.m.

Officers responded to the scene on a report of a holdup alarm being activated.

Police said the suspect was trying to rob the gas station when the shooting happened.

Another employee was working inside the cooler area at the time of the shooting and was not hurt. There were no customers inside.

Detectives interviewed potential witnesses and reviewed surveillance video from the gas station and nearby businesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Wayne Police at (260) 427-1222 or dial 911.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release identity of the victim.
