Father, son escape Columbus house fire

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A father and son are relocating after losing their home to a fire Saturday morning.

It happened just after midnight in the 300 block of Smith Street when officials were called out to a residence fire.

Upon arrival, authorities found the home to have flames shooting from the roof of the home.

63-year-old Garry Gatewood told fire officials that he and his 33-year-old son Doug Gatewood were the only occupants of the home and that the fire began in the home’s living room. Gatewood later said he attempted to put out the flames using a drink, but was unsucessful

Damages from the fire are estimated at around $100,000.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
