Suspect in pursuit rams 2 police cars, crashes

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man rammed his car into at least two police cars during a chase that took place Sunday evening.

Police say the incident began when officers tried to initiate a traffic stop because they identified a car that had been involved in a carjacking on Saturday night. The driver refused to stop and police began to pursue the vehicle.

Police say the car crashed into at least two police cars throughout the chase, driving through main streets, as well as residential areas. One woman who happened to be driving in the area told us he almost crashed right into her car too.

Eventually, the driver lost a tire and crashed into a brick porch at Linden and Prospect streets. People who live in the area told 24-Hour News 8 they’re thankful nobody was hurt.

“It scares me. Prospect Street is a very, very busy street. It’s hard to get across during the day more less the night and the speed coming through here like that is unheard of, and yes it does scare me and everybody around here,” said Ronnie Rhoton, and Indianapolis resident.

Police took the driver and a female passenger into custody. They said the woman had unrelated warrants. The carjacking, as well as the crash, are still under investigation.
