All of the details about the event can be found on the ticket sales page on Eventbrite here:https://www.eventbrite.com/e/prom-night-puerto-rico-overcoming-maria-benefit-tickets-39057168041.

The beneficiary of the event is our former church (Second Union Church) in Puerto Rico’s Hurricane Relief Fund. They are working tirelessly on relief and recovery efforts. We picked them as a beneficiary for our P.R.O.M. because we trust them to be good stewards with the money and to get help DIRECTLY to so many people who desperately need it. Second Union is a 501c3 corporation, and 100% of ticket sales and donations for the event will be going to the Hurricane Relief Fund. Please check out Second Union Church on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/secondunionchurch/) to see everything the church is doing to help those in need all across the island.

About: (as told by Laurie)

–>Background surrounding Laurie’s family’s time in Puerto Rico:

We lived in Ocean Park, part of the San Juan metro area, before moving back to Indy in June. Sadly, the water levels in Ocean Park didn’t recede for two weeks after Hurricane Maria, and a couple of weeks ago, much of the area flooded again after a major rain storm because all of the storm drains are clogged. There is just nowhere for the water to go. A lot of the island still does not have power, and it’s been over two months since Maria made landfall. There are also concerns for the drinking water quality and the rise in the mosquito population because of mosquito-borne diseases.

–>Why Gallery Forty-Two?

I think it’s the perfect space for our event. Gallery Forty-Two is an incredibly beautiful venue. It’s an art gallery in downtown Indy, and there is, or course, art displayed on the walls. However, we will have some Puerto Rican touches in the decor.

–>Black tie is optional, but do you anticipate that people will dress up – including prom dresses?

Yes! Please! I want people to use this event as an opportunity to REALLY get dressed up and look fancy. Black tie preferred is my hope, but I don’t want to discourage anyone from wearing what he/she might already have at home in a closet. After all, this is a benefit, and I am grateful that our guests are coming! In keeping with the prom theme, we will have Lifetouch Photography on hand to take classic “prom-pose” pictures of guests looking their best!

–>Is it $75 per person or per couple?

The price is $75 per person and includes and open bar of beer and wine and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets can be purchased in advance on our Eventbrite page. Right now, we are not planning on selling tickets at the door. We are so grateful to Bier Brewery and RNDC for donating the beer and wine. Sahm’s Place, Big Lug Canteen, The Garden Table and Morton’s Steakhouse are all on board to provide a variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres.

–>Will the music be prom type stuff, some fast, some slow? Will you be aiming for a certain time period – 80s or 90s, or will it be current stuff?

Our DJ, Jim Cerone, is quite literally, The Perfect Host, and he will be playing all sorts of fast, slow, 80s, 90s, current and Latin music for everyone. I’m sure he’ll also take requests, and of course, we will play “Despacito!”
