Plastic surgery in older Americans increasing

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Plastic surgery is on the rise according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

In 2016, millions of plastic surgery procedures were performed.

A plastic surgeon out of Greenwood has noticed more patients 65 years of age and older in his office.

That is the case for Frank and Beverly Marchino who are both 78. They never thought when they got married 58 years ago that they would one day get plastic surgery together.

“I thought that was something only movie stars did and now it’s fairly common for anybody,” said Beverly Marchino.

They often exercise, workout, and travel together.

“I feel great. We feel good,” they said.

They chose to get plastic surgery because they wanted to look how they felt on the inside.

“I had droopy eyelids here and it was impairing my vision. Made me feel better about myself,” said Frank Marchino.

For facial plastic surgeon Mark Hamilton, seeing patients happy with the change is something he likes about his job.

“When a patient comes back and they look in the mirror and they’re just overjoyed by the change, that’s a lot of fun,” said Hamilton.

He expects to continue to see more patients later in life come into his office.

“People are living longer and are healthier longer so that makes a difference. For some people it is something financially a long time they couldn’t do it, now they have the time off from work because of retirement, financially they can do it,” he added.
