Joey Chestnut to defend title in shrimp cocktail-eating competition

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A world-championship eater is back in the city this weekend, and he’s taking on a big opponent — or a shrimpy one.

Joey Chestnut will compete in the St. Elmo Steak House Cocktail Eating Championship.

Last year, he ate 15 pounds of shrimp with sauce in just eight minutes.

That’s about 45 orders of the appetizer.

Chestnut said, no matter what, he’s going to win.

“This is a painful contest. Like a minute into the contest, you see I’m crying. And I’m … looking at this, I’m a little bit scared. But I’m going to do whatever it takes to win. If someone pushes me to set a new record, I’m going to do it.”

Chestnut has won four years in a row.

The competition is 3 p.m. Saturday on Georgia Street during festivities before the Big Ten Championship later at Lucas Oil Stadium.
