Winter chill arrives this week

After a few mild days to open up the month of December, our pattern flips and colder temperatures return for the long term.Today:

After coming off of a mild Saturday, where high temperatures hit the mid 50s – we should build on that be a few degrees this afternoon.  Expect sunny conditions with highs in the upper 50s and even lower 60s in some spots south of Indy later today.  The record high for today is 69°, set back in 2012.Tonight:

Mostly clear and again, mild for this time of year.  Lows only fall to the lower to middle 40s.

Super Moon Tonight!

If you get a chance, be sure to check out 2017’s only Super Moon later tonight.  There may be a few clouds around, but it should be a good viewing sky.  More information about tonight’s Super Moon can be found hereMonday:

We’ll start off the day dry, with quickly warming temperatures.  Winds will increase gradually, but noticeably as head throughout the day, with gusts up to 30mph.  A few isolated showers can’t be ruled out in our far northwestern counties during the afternoon, but much of the area should stay dry through the daytime hours.

Highs top out in the lower to middle 60s.

Sharp cold front will approach the area Monday afternoon, increasing cloud cover late in the day, followed by increased rain chances Monday evening.  A few thunderstorms can’t be ruled out late Monday night into early Tuesday morning.Tuesday:

Showers continue early on, but should quickly clear out by mid morning.

Temperatures will quickly fall through the afternoon, as the cold front allows a rush of arctic air to fill into the Midwest.  Highs hit the middle 40s early, but slowly decline throughout the day.8 Day Forecast:

The pattern change will be evident in the extended forecast, as high temperatures will stay well below average for the next several days.  We’ll be lucky to get above freezing for high temps starting Wednesday, with that trend continuing through the weekend.

A couple waves that we are watching arrive Thursday through Saturday, that should at least provide some chances for snow.  Exact timing, and strength remain the big question mark at the moment, but there is some potential that some minor accumulations could take place over that three day stretch – something to watch for as we get deeper into the work week.
