Man facing false informing, drug charges following traffic stop

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One man is in custody after officials said he was in possession of drugs and a gun following a traffic stop.

The incident happened just after midnight Tuesday when a trooper pulled over the vehicle near 38th Street and Capital Avenue for driving without headlights.

Following an investigation, a backseat passenger was allegedly found with a gun and marijuana in the backseat of the vehicle. The passenger was later identified as 21-year-old Davontaye Holifield, who went on to falsely tell the trooper he was only 17 after he could’t show identification.

Holifield faces charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a synthetic substance, false informing and possession of a firearm. Holifield also had an outstanding felon warrant.

He is currently being held in the Marion County Jail.
