Task force gathering input on linking up Indiana bike trails

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A legislative task force looking for ways to connect bike trails throughout Indiana is gathering this week.

The Indiana Bike Trails Task Force will meet 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Indianapolis Zoo to discuss ideas and gather input.

The group was created this year by the General Assembly. It’s tasked with developing proposals to link up bike trails, as well as determine ways to pay for the projects.

The group must release its findings by July 2019, including six possible ways to fund the improvements and a timetable for getting the projects done.

Indiana currently has over 1,500 miles of hard surface, off-road trails open to bicycles. But officials say the state lags behind others when it comes to linking up those trails.
