KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a Kokomo man facing criminal charges of rape, aggravated battery, criminal confinement, incest and strangulation after police said he battered and raped a woman in an incident that lasted 12 hours.

Gary F. Perkins, 51, is a registered Indiana sex offender. He was convicted rape, sexual battery and criminal deviate conduct in 1997, according to the Howard County sex offender registry.

On Tuesday morning, Kokomo police said Monday, they were called to the 500 block of West Park Avenue after a woman reported that she had been beaten and raped by Perkins. The woman said the incident began around 6 p.m. Monday, and after being sexually assaulted and confined to a bed, was able to free herself once Perkins left the residence.

The woman told police that she and Perkins had “hung out and snorted a couple lines of meth together,” said a police report used to obtain the warrant. At some point in the evening, the woman said, Perkins hit her in the back of the head with a club and choked her by strangling her before they had sex, the police report said.

Injuries the woman suffered included five fractured ribs and a badly bruised hand. She had to have three staples placed on the top of her head from injuries there, the police report said.

The prosecutor said Howard Superior Court 2 has set a $100,000 cash bond for Perkins.

The Howard County jail said Perkins is not an inmate there. A news release issued Tuesday by the prosecutor did not indicate whether he is still at large, but said the case remained under investigation. Calls to the Kokomo Police Department were not immediately returned.

Kokomo police said Monday that Perkins is believed to be driving a blue 2003 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan with Indiana plates 644TJZ. Perkins should be considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information on his whereabouts, you are urged to contact the Kokomo Police Department Capt. Teresa Galloway at (765) 456-7326 or the department tip line at 765-456-7017.
