Man convicted in connection to 2008 Thanksgiving murder

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One man has been convicted in the 2008 Thanksgiving murder of a man.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry announced Wednesday that Darrin Shores was found guilty by a jury in the murder of Thomas Johnson.

The incident happened on the morning of Thanksgiving in 2008 at an apartment complex on the city’s northwest side when Johnson was found by a responding IMPD officer with a gunshot wound with his vehicle into a guard rail. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Cooperating individuals later tipped off investigators to Shores’ involvement in 2016.

It wasn’t until April that Shores was charged with Johnson’s murder and later found in Atlanta, Georgia where he was arrested in May.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 20.

Prosecutor Curry released a statement:

It is our hope that we can bring justice to the families of all homicide victims. However, it is particularly gratifying that the family of Thomas Johnson will now have the finality of this conviction after nine years of uncertainty regarding the circumstances of his death.
