SIU-Edwardsville edges IUPUI 82-81

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Jaylen McCoy sank a 3-pointer to give his team the lead and Keenan Simmons followed with a layup to keep it safe as SIU-Edwardsville snapped a four-game slide, edging IUPUI 82-81 on Wednesday night.

The Cougars (2-6) led through much of the second half but fell behind on a 10-5 run by IUPUI to trail 76-73 with 5:04 to play. They were down by a point when Christian Ellis dished to McCoy who made a 3-pointer to put them back on top, 80-78, with 2:12 remaining. Simmons followed with a layup to stretch it to 82-78 and the Cougars held on for the win.

Jaylen Henry led the scoring for the Cougars with 21 points and nine rebounds. Daniel Kinchen added 16 points, David McFarland had 15 points, Ellis had 10 and McCoy finished with nine.

Aaron Brennan had 25 points with five rebounds and four assists for the Jaguars (2-5), who are on a three-game skid.
