Tweet for Toys collects thousands of toys

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — WISH-TV teamed up with the Indy Public Safety Foundation once again for this year’s Tweet For Toys.

Our Daybreak team stopped at 14 businesses that had tweeted us to let us know they had toys to be collected. Overall, thousands of toys were collected.

The Indy Public Safety Foundation will give them to children in need this Christmas season. Toys will also be carried around in police cars and firetrucks for times of need, such as a house fire.

If you missed signing up for Tweet For Toys and have toys you’d like to donate, you can drop them off at any of our four sponsors through December 15.

Acorn Distributors had dozens of toys. One employee said they used to do a department gift exchange but decided to use the money to collect toys for kids instead.

Allison Payment Systems has been a part of Tweet For Toys for four years. Employees started collecting toys back in July. They ended up with almost 200!

Bar Keepers Friend has been involved in Tweet for Toys for several years. Once again this year, they had dozens of toys ready to be donated.

Ed Martin joined Tweet For Toys as a sponsor once again this year. They have boxes at all of their dealerships for toy collections. You can drop toys off through December 15 to be donated to the Indy Public Safety Foundation.

Grand Appliance and TV is new to the Indianapolis area and new to Tweet For Toys. They say since they opened a store in Indianapolis, they wanted to find a way to give back to the community . The decided Tweet For Toys was the right way to go.

Choice Dental Centre was new to Tweet For Toys this year. They collected many toys. The dental office also put together gift packs of toothbrushes and toothpaste that can be given to children in need.

Harding Group was new to Tweet For Toys this year. They say they saw it mentioned on Twitter and decided to be a part of it this year as a way to help out the community.

IBEW Local 481 was a sponsor once again this year. Employees there say just like the Circle of Lights they do every year for the community, they like to give back by collecting toys for kids in need.

The Indiana Department of Revenue participated in the GR8 Paper Push earlier this year and decided to also collect toys for Tweet For Toys. The ended up with several boxes of toys for the Indy Public Safety Foundation.

Jimmy’s Nail Spa has been collecting toys for Tweet For Toys since it started at WISH-TV. They love when our crew stops by to collect the toys. They also love getting to see Daybreak’s Lauren Lowrey every year.

Roberts Camera was a sponsor of this year’s Tweet For Toys. They collected toys at their Indianapolis and Carmel locations. The owner, Bruce Pallman, says they were happy to help out the community in this way especially this time of year.

Orman Accounting has donated to Tweet For Toys since it started. They say they feel blessed with what they have and like to give back to the community, especially children. The employees know Randy so well by now they had his favorite doughnuts waiting for him at their stop.

Students at Southport 6th Grade Academy raised money so they could buy toys for kids in need. They were there to greet our crew today and help load up all the toys.
