Chinese Lantern Festival dazzles the Indiana State Fairgrounds for 6-week celebration

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A first of its kind light and art display festival is in Indianapolis.

The Chinese Lantern Festival is a traveling show but has set up shop in Indiana for the first time for a six-week celebration of Chinese art and culture.

The Chinese Lantern Festival features 33 lantern displays made up of hundreds of sculptures and thousands of LED lights that are all handmade and custom built by Chinese artisans.

Those displays include a 200-foot long Chinese dragon and a 30-foot tall traditional Chinese arch.

In addition to the light display, there are nightly performances from Chinese acrobats, traditional Chinese handicraft demonstrations and Chinese cuisine.

The festival runs through Jan. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night and is open on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Tickets can be purchased at the entrance to the festival, at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Box Office or online.
