Woman killed in Greenfield house fire identified

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – The woman who was killed in a Wednesday morning fire in Greenfield has been identified.

According to our partners at the Greenfield Daily Reporter, 64-year-old Linda Murray perished in the house fire.

On Wednesday morning, crews responded to a call of a residence fire in the 2100 block of Anita Lane.

While the fire remains under investigation, foul play is not suspected.

Officials say Murray was a smoker who used an oxygen tank to help her breathe. Fire officials believe that Murray likely attempted to put out the fire by herself, but was overcome by the smoke.

The fire is thought to have started on the backside of the house, in an enclosed porch area.

The house is estimated at total loss, at approximately $200,000 in damage.
