Tracking Saturday snow

Our first chance for measurable snow this season is working into the state.  It won’t be a lot, but enough for tricky travel throughout the day.

Today’s snow will come in a couple of waves.  The first will be the main batch that is working through this morning.  By lunch time, this swath of snow should be out of the state.  Most will see less than 1″ of accumulation out of this, although some of our far northern counties up around the Kokomo area could get up to 1″ from this first “wave” of snow.

The second “wave”, will be in the form of lake effect snow showers coming off of Lake Michigan.  This will be very scattered, meaning not all will pick up on this snow.  Some of these bands could produce brief, but heavy bursts of snow.  This will limit visibility quickly – and will be the main concern for travelers this afternoon into the evening hours.  A few of these bands could make it down to Indy, but for the most part, these lake effect bands will likely only impact our northern and northeastern counties.  An addition 1″ to 2″ could be possible with the second wave.

In total, expect up to 1″ from around I-70, and in far northern and northeastern counties, 1″ to 2″ are possible, with some isolated heavier amounts where the lake effect bands set up.

Temperatures today will hover around freezing this afternoon.  Not much in the way of sunshine as this system works through the Midwest.
